Canterbury, New Zealand - coping with adversity
Join the VJ team from Christchurch, NZ as you learn more about them and their local community of Christchurch.
From September 4, 2010 through to the present Christchurch and the Canterbury region has been hit by over 9,000 earthquakes.
A damaging 7.1 earthquake struck in the early hours of Saturday September 4th, causing damage to buildings and infrastructure - but with no loss of life. This was to change however as a shallow series of earthquakes struck close to the city centre on February 22nd, resulting in over 180 deaths and causing major damage to roads, recreational facilities, buildings, schools and houses.
Some schools were severely damaged and students were relocated, sharing sites with other schools around the city. Twelve months on the city is settling down to a "new normal".
Throughout these events, and through trying times, students have worked hard to try and maintain a sense of normality. This is an opportunity for students in Canterbury to share their experiences and discuss how they cope with adversity.
